The island is a thin strip of land stretching from south to north for 11 kilometers suspended between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon. In fact, you can get there by motorboat from Chioggia or from Venice by arriving by waterbus to Lido. From here you take bus 11 to Alberoni where the ferry-boat is ready to ferry you to Santa Maria del Mare at the northern end of Pellestrina.
The main centers are Pellestrina village and San Pietro in Volta. Other localities include Santa Maria del Mare, Portosecco, and Sant’Antonio.
The island can be circumnavigated on foot, by bus, or bicycle, and it is impossible to get lost, just follow the road along the Murazzi (fortifications that protect Pellestrina from the sea). This main road connects the small villages of fishermen, vegetable growers and lace makers, where time seems to stand still.
Also at the southern end is Ca’ Roman, a Regional Nature Reserve managed with the City of Venice and Lipu. It can be reached by ACTV public transportation: line 11 from Chioggia (boat only) or from Lido (bus+boat). Here you will find a wild beach, surrounded by the dunes that separate it from a dense forest where many protected species of birds live. At the end of the path through the woods, toward the pier and lighthouse of Ca’ Roman, we catch a glimpse of Chioggia and its harbor.

Festivals, festivals and traditions
From June to August there are 4 festivals organized by committees composed of island residents, titled to the patron saints of the parishes.
Present food stands with typical seafood dishes. Holding Venetian rowing regattas, Palo della cuccagna game, various sports tournaments, exhibitions of local artisans, children’s workshops and dance evenings.
Finally, each festival closes with a fireworks display.
