The study Future4Tourism, a new survey on Italians’ travel and vacation choices by Ipsos, found that 61 percent of Italians will treat themselves to at least one vacation period between October and December 2021.
Already in June, a preliminary survey, also by Ipsos, had presented very encouraging data for Italian destinations because already 4 out of 10 Italians had expressed their intention to treat themselves to either a weekend or a longer vacation in the fall.
The real news is that 70 percent of travelers will choose to stay in Italy, compared to an average of 56 percent in pre-Covid periods. Out-of-town destinations continue to suffer.

But this positive news is also compounded by the fact that compared to last year, period 2020-2021, people will return to visit cultural villages and cities, which is no small thing! Let us remember well that during the pandemic, these kinds of destinations were neglected in favor of healthier destinations such as seaside and mountains, where spacing and fresh air could be guaranteed. All thanks to pandemic containment.

The preferred region among fall destinations was Tuscany (16 percent preference), followed by Trentino, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily (with preference percentages between 7 and 9 percent each).

Unfortunately, this increase in demand will not be enough to make up for the absence of incoming international tourism, but it brings confidence and hope for the improvement of the overall situation in the future.
